Zen Baby Massage

Touch is the first language we understand.

It sends non verbal messages of security that all humans benefit from, no matter the age. Think of holding hands for support or reassurance, the hugs people exchange, the friendly pats on the shoulder. Touch is part of the circle of love that surrounds your child.

Research shows that routine touch and massage by a loving caregiver is critical to a baby’s growth, communication and learning. Your baby’s first emotional bonds are built from physical contact, and these serve as the foundation for emotional and intellectual development later in life. In addition to these huge lifelong benefits, massage has many benefits to daily life such as healthy, restful sleep,  calmer babies with lower levels of stress hormones, better digestion and circulation and fewer symptoms of colic.

These benefit to you are also huge.  The release of the ‘feel good’ hormone, oxytocin, during massage is a great mood booster and calms the body and mind.  Being aware of and responding to your baby’s needs and cues can evoke powerful feelings of love, joy, and purpose, contributing to your own emotional wellbeing, reducing stress and growing confidence.

Bonding with your child in this way helps to create  healthy attachment that supports long-term health.

Ali trained in baby massage because she knows first hand of the benefits. She describes massage as a ‘saviour’ as it was one of the only things that helped her and her refluxy babies get through some tricky times.

Zen baby massage classes are split in to two groups –  babies who are not yet moving and those who are on the move. Please select the class that will best suit you and your baby’s needs. Oil will be provided at classes. Please bring a towel or blanket for baby to lie on.
